Questions about STD home test

Is the STD home test as reliable as a laboratory test?

Yes, clinical research has shown that the STD home test, unlike any other home tests, is as reliable as a laboratory test because your sample is analyzed in a fully accredited laboratory.

Can the test also be used during pregnancy?

Yes, this test can be used during pregnancy. During pregnancy it is actually highly advisable to check oneself on STDs, because those could lead to severe consequences during the pregnancy, like premature birth or spontaneous abortion.

I feel healthy, should I still do a Chlamydia test?

If you had unsafe sex it is always advisable to test for chlamydia. This infection can be present without any clinical symptoms.

Can I do the test when I have my period?

No, you cannot. With a lot of blood in the home test, we can not analyse the specimen. It is best to wait until you are no longer menstruating (until you do not lose any blood anymore).

Can I also do the test if I have used a vaginal gel, foam or bath soap?

Do not do the test when you have used one of these products in the last 48 hours.

Is the laboratory where the STD home test is analysed CCKL accredited?

Yes.

Can I take the test multiple times?

No, the STD Test can be used only once. Even when you have a negative result.

How do you get an STD?

STIs/ STDs are passed on in sperm, blood, vaginal fluid and by contact between mucous membranes. There are mucous membranes in the rectum, penis, vagina and mouth. Most people acquire an STI through unprotected sex. Unprotected sex means: Vaginal intercourse without a condom; Anal sexual intercourse without an extra strong condom; Oral sex (fellatio and cunnilingus) without a condom or dental dam. Some STIs can also be acquired via blood. You can get them as a result of unhygienic tattooing or piercing. Or if you take drugs and use needles, syringes or other attributes that belong to someone else. HIV, hepatitis B and syphilis can be passed from mother to child during pregnancy. HIV, hepatitis B, syphilis, chlamydia, genital herpes and gonorrhoea can be passed to the baby during birth.

When I have sex with someone that has chlamydia, what are the chances that I get infected?

The risk of transmission of the infection in one single unsafe sexual intercourse with an infected partner is close to 50%.

How long until I notice that I am infected with Chlamydia?

The incubation period of a chlamydial infection is 7-12 days. This means that after about two weeks the first symptoms appear. Note however: In most cases you do not have any noticeable symptoms of a Chlamydia infection!

I suffer from pain when urinating. Should I test for chlamydia?

Did you have unsafe sex and then experience vague symptoms such as abdominal pain, more or purulent discharge, pain or burning when urinating, bleeding between menstrual periods, bleeding or pain during or after intercourse, then it is wise to dot the test.

I have an STD, but I do not know since when I'm infected with it. Should I warn everyone with whom I have ever had sex?

Basically you should in any case warn all the partners with whom you have had unprotected sexual contact in the past six months.

I have already been treated for chlamydia. Can I be infected again?

Yes. Treatment is no vaccination. If you have contact with the Chlamydia bacterium again, you can be re-infected. In fact, the risk of complications such as infertility (women) after multiple infections is much greater. Therefore it is important that your partner is treated (preferably simultaneously and as quickly as possible). Otherwise you can re-infect each other.

Do I need to visit a doctor or specialist for a referral?

No, the chlamydia self-test can be performed at your own discretion. No referral from a doctor is required.

Should I make an appointment in advance?

No, you do not have to make an appointment in advance.

What is the procedure?

When you have ordered the test via our website and the payment has been made, you will receive the test as soon as possible. After you have received the test, please make sure that the code on the box is the same as the code on the code-card. If so, you can proceed with obtaining the samples. Instructions about obtaining samples can be found in the instruction leaflet. After the sample has been obtained and is packed according to the provided instructions, you can post it. Be sure to carefully save the unique code from the code-card, as you will need it to obtain the testresults. Once the test has arrived at our lab you can check the status of your test with your unique code. The result can be found within 7 working days after arrival of the sample at our lab.

When can I do a test?

Every STD has its own incubation period. This means that the STD can only be identified in a test after a certain period. You can read more about the incubation period for the different types of STD below: STD incubation period: Chlamydia – 10 days Gonorroe – 10 days Trichomonas – 21 days Herpes Test – only when vesicles are noticeable. Candida – 21 days Syfilis – 6 weeks Hiv – 3 months Hepatitis B – 3 months Don’t do a test before the end of the mentioned incubation periods, because this will not give a reliable test result.

Can I have sex during treatment?

Until one week after starting treatment, it is better not to have sexual intercourse. Like this, the body can repair and you can prevent your partner from being (re) infected.

I have tested positive. What do I do now?

If you are tested positive for chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomonas or HPV, you will have to contact your doctor immediately to get your STD treated right away. Chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichomonas can be cured through a treatment with antibiotics. If you are tested positive, it is not only important to get yourself treated, but it’s also important to alert all of your sexual partner(s) from the past 6 months (preferably the past 12 months) regardless on whether they encounter symptoms. They can have themselves tested (and possibly treated) as well.

What are the next steps after the result is positive?

Take your results to your doctor and he/she will prescribe appropriate treatment.

When can I expect results?

Can I return items ordered?

If the products do not meet your expectations, you can return the item within 14 days, if unused and in original packaging. All returns must be announced to us in written form through our return form. You need at least your full name and invoice number. Note: the account you specify for the repayment must be equal to the account of your payment to us. This is to prevent any fraudulent refunds. Return process: 1) Send an email to info@hometestshop.co.uk and include what you want to return incl. your order number. 2) Via email you will receive a return form. 3) Complete the return form, print it and send it along with your item to be returned. 4) Caution! You are responsible that the item is sent back properly.

Can I cancel my order?

Yes, you can cancel your order within 24 hours after you have placed the order. To cancel within 24 hours please send an e-mail to info@hometestshop.co.uk containing your full name and order number. If you cancel your order after it has been shipped to you, then we will charge you the shipping costs. For repayment of money paid (in advance), we need your bank account number. Customers from Belgium, Germany or Switzerland should also add the IBAN and BIC / SWIFT number from their own bank. Note: the account you specify for the repayment must be equal to the account of the payment that you’ve made. This is to prevent any fraudulent refunds.
